Born and brought up in Nathdwara, this Indian business magnate, investor, and philanthropist has created world’s largest Shiva statue “Statue of Belief” in Nathdwara, and is also building a 30,000 seater stadium in his hometown
Namrata Kohli in an exclusive conversation with Madan Paliwal
How was the Statue of Belief conceived in the first place, and how come a Shiva statue in what is essentially a Krishna Nagri of Nathdwara?
The idea for the Statue of Belief was born from a desire to showcase the deep connection between Shree Nath Ji (Hari) and Shiva (Har). Nathdwara, already blessed by the presence of Shree Nath Ji, felt like the perfect place to celebrate this divine bond. The image of Shiva coming to Nathdwara to meet Shree Nath Ji and then peacefully sitting in meditation on a hillock captures this special spiritual connection. This statue signifies more than just being the tallest Shiva statue; it’s about sharing this beautiful relationship with the world.
Any story behind the choice of making this in a unique meditative pose of Lord Shiva?
We chose a meditative and joyful pose for Lord Shiva to embody the peace and happiness he experienced upon meeting Krishna. This pose symbolizes a serene and blissful state, representing the fulfillment of a divine purpose. It truly reflects the essence of Nathdwara, a haven of devotion and tranquility.
I understand the Statue of Belief is the tallest Shiva statue in the world at 369 feet. Who created this statue, what kinds of materials were used, and how much time has it taken to make this?
Creating the Statue of Belief was a wonderful journey that took over ten years, involving the talented hands of more than 750 artisans and engineers. Matu Ram Arts converted this vision into reality, with Shapoorji Pallonji overseeing the construction. We used high-tensile steel and self-compacting concrete to ensure its durability for over 250 years, even in the face of major earthquakes. Miraj Group made sure to keep the project proudly “Made in India,” by only using local expertise and resources to bring this shiva statue to life.
The 32 acres of the Statue of Belief has a theme and so many adventure activities. Which is the most popular activity and favored zone?
Visitors love our Nijatma Abhishek at 351 ft, and several other activities. The light and sound show, in particular, has touched many hearts with its spiritual storytelling. It’s wonderful to see people of all ages finding joy and peace here.
The sound and light show at the Statue of Belief is narrated by you. What kind of content and stories are shared, and who are the technology partners?
Stories like Bramhand Darshan, Kaamdahan, Rudrashtak, Maharaas, and Shabd Utpatti share deep spiritual lessons meant to inspire faith and good living. Using special Barco projectors, we’ve created a visually amazing and uplifting experience that touches the hearts of everyone who comes to see it.
What kind of footfalls does this place attract, and what has been the response since its opening in 2022?
Since opening in 2022, more than 20 lakh people have visited, mostly from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra. The response has been heartwarming, with visitors coming for both adventure and a deeper spiritual experience.
Miraj Group is also building a stadium in Nathdwara. What is the purpose of this project, and what kind of games will be held there?
The stadium aims to promote sports and provide a stage for local talent. It’s part of our commitment to fostering a strong sports culture in Nathdwara, inspiring young people to dream big and achieve their goals.
When will the stadium be inaugurated, and what is the first event scheduled here?
The stadium is planned to be inaugurated in the first half of this year. The first event is going to be a cricket event.
